Dysmenorrhea or period pain mostly affects women under the age of 25 across the globe, according to a 2019 research published in the Journal of Women’s Health. So, practicing self-care during can help you relieve pain and stress, especially during your period, says obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist Dr Nirmala M. During this time, your body is constantly working. This makes it even more important to listen to what your body and mind are telling you. So, prioritising self-care is of utmost importance.

Researchers concluded that educational interventions which discuss the incorporation of effective pain management strategies, such as using heat and exercise, should be offered. Getting sufficient rest and sleep are equally important. This helps your body to relax and reset, while reducing stress and fatigue, which are common premenstrual syndrome symptoms.

Don’t do high-intensity exercises. Instead, go for a light workout session or engage in any gentle physical activity like walking or yoga. This is not only beneficial for your physical health, but also helps to boost your mood.
