A rash is a part of skin that appears to be different than the rest of your skin around it. It may be red and/or swollen. It may also feel itchy. A skin rash is fairly common and can happen to anyone. However, it is very important to be able to distinguish the kind of rash to address the root cause.
Different rashes have different symptoms. In fact, some types of skin rash may even make your skin turn purple or grey. A skin rash can be annoying and uncomfortable, but many times they go away on their own or with simple treatments. What is a skin rash?
A skin rash is when your skin looks or feels different than usual. It can make your skin appear red, swollen, and bumpy. Sometimes it feels itchy, like you want to scratch it. “A skin rash can be caused by various things like allergies, infections, or irritants. It might make your skin feel rough or look scaly. Some rashes are small and localized, while others can cover larger areas of your body,” says Dr Kuri. If a rash persists or gets worse, it’s a good idea to see a doctor.

Yes! Skin rashes can happen to anyone – from babies to adults. “Some people are more prone to getting rashes, especially those with sensitive skin or certain medical conditions like allergies or eczema. Babies might get diaper rashes, while adults might develop rashes from things like harsh chemicals or allergic reactions,” says Dr Kuri. So, it’s important to take care of your skin and try to avoid things that might cause rashes if you’re more prone to them.
