How to Treat a Low Blood Sugar (Without Eating Everything in Sight)

We were all in a position where we had bad blood sugar levels. There’s no reason for myself. It’s like the devil hijacked your self-control!

It makes perfect sense – your body just wants to bring your blood sugar levels back to a safe level and does its best to ensure that the low ones are corrected.

But eating weight with carbohydrates only leads to high blood sugar and addresses the opposite problem. What do people with diabetes do?

First of all, fix the low ones. Obtains blood glucose levels above 70 mg/dL (4 mmol/L).

It is best to use dextrose-based treatments such as glucose tablets and gels to raise BG to a safe level. It is important to use a high glycemic index if you are very low and need to increase your blood sugar quickly, especially if you have a lot of insulin.

In contrast to overtreatment, be careful to treat it with the right amount of carbohydrates.

  • If you weigh less than 60 pounds, grams of carbohydrates will increase your BG by about 6 points.
  • If you weigh between 100 and 160 pounds, one gram of carbohydrates should increase your BG by about 4 points.
  • If you weigh between 160 and 220 pounds, your gram carbs can increase by 3 points.

Give the carbs in 15-20 minutes to increase the BG. There is a delay time on the CGM sensor, so follow-up fingertips are performed. Additionally, the BG obtained with the CGM sensor will more accurately reflect your response to treatment. If it is still low, repeat treatment.

I remember the worst that munched the way through the pantry and I remember neglecting to count carbs while doing it. I had no idea how much money I would have for Bolas! Boy, did I learn my lessons?

I never did it again – I always counted carbohydrates, took insulin, and covered what I eat beyond what I need to control my hypoglycemia levels. Sometimes the teacher has the best experience.

I was driving when I had the worst low I’d ever had. I’m grateful that there was glucose gel in the center console and glucose tablets in the keychain. I was smoking gel while I was pulling down the road.

Usually I would have wanted to eat and eat afterwards. However, I had to sit in the car and wait for BG to appear, so the food was not available immediately. And what do you know? By the time I got home, my desire to eat was over! I was very surprised, but it did. That was a good lesson for me too.

If your blood sugar levels are rising, treating them low and then higher than you would like, you can choose to exercise and leave the attractive kitchen.

Take a little walk, run out of some of the food you ate for the low BG and avoid the need to take corrective insulin to defeat it again – a vicious cycle, no?

Another strategy to avoid overeating after low? Ask the help of those around you. Sometimes we all need a little support. Who knows, they may be happy to sit with you while you wait for a low person to appear, or they may go for that walk with you.
